We are a group of aspiring biologists who just discovered the beautiful underwater world and we would like to tell you something:

Coral reefs are known as the "rainforests of the sea" due to their vast biodiversity. They provide a home for diverse marine species, including fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and other organisms. Many species depend on coral reefs for shelter, breeding, and food. Despite covering less than 1% of the ocean floor, coral reefs support around 25% of marine species, making them incredibly diverse and productive ecosystems. Coral reefs also act as natural barriers, protecting coastlines from the damaging impacts of storms, waves, and erosion. Their intricate structure helps reduce wave energy before it reaches the shore. However, human activities pose significant threats to coral reefs. Climate change, pollution, overfishing, destructive fishing practices, coastal development, and unsustainable tourism are degrading these ecosystems.

But we can do something about it! Coral gardens provide a way to restore damaged or degraded coral reefs actively. Corals are grown in controlled environments, such as nurseries or underwater structures until they are large and healthy enough to be transplanted onto degraded reef sites. This helps replenish coral populations and rebuild the structure of the reef. By transplanting more resilient coral species, the overall resilience of the reef ecosystem can be improved, making it better equipped to withstand the challenges posed by climate change and other threats.
